For the third consecutive year, the Berne-based non-profit organisation art+château is pleased to announce the launch of its next exhibition of contemporary art in an historic castle.

This year’s exhibition Beyond Baroque will take place at the stunning  Schloss Waldegg (Waldegg Castle, Canton of Solothurn), bringing together fourteen Swiss and international contemporary artists whose artistic practices demonstrate an intimate yet unexpected visual relation with the traditional formal vocabulary of the Baroque period. The artworks included in the exhibition highlight different aspects of the permanence and reinterpretation of the Baroque style in contemporary art and in today’s society, offering a fresh and surprising insight into this subject. Artworks of different media – drawings, paintings, videos, sculptures, installations, and a music performance – enter into dialogue with the architecture of Waldegg Castle and some of its most iconic, historic holdings.

Der Berner gemeinnützige Verein art+château freut sich, zum dritten Mal in Folge eine Ausstellung zeitgenössischer Kunst in einem historischen Schloss anzukündigen.

Die diesjährige Ausstellung Jenseits des Barocks findet im malerischen und imposanten Schloss Waldegg (Kanton Solothurn) statt und bringt vierzehn Solothurner, Schweizer und internationale zeitgenössische KünstlerInnen zusammen, die sich mit dem Formenvokabular des Barocks auseinandersetzen. Die künstlerischen Ansätze der ausgewählten Kunstschaffenden sind einzigartig und bieten Raum für eine freie und vielfältige Interpretation des Themas. Dadurch werden verschiedene Aspekte der Beständigkeit und Neuinterpretation des Barocks in der zeitgenössischen Kunst und in der heutigen Gesellschaft beleuchtet. Die Kunstwerke, die sowohl im Schloss als auch auf dem Schlossgelände ausgestellt werden, treten in einen Dialog mit der Architektur des Gebäudes und seiner Ausstattung.

Die Ausstellung ist konzipiert und kuratiert von Dr. Valentina Locatelli. Kuratorische Assistenz: Giulia Busetti.

The exhibition will then be open to the public from 27 August to 25 September during the museum's opening hours. / Die Ausstellung ist anschliessend vom 27. August bis am 25. September während der Öffnungszeiten des Museums zugänglich.

SUNDAY / SONNTAG 28.08.2022: FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR / FÜR UKRAINE.

13:30 - 16:30 Uhr

Textile workshop with artist Alina Kopytsia to fundraise on behalf of the artists in the Ukraine. The workshop participants will receive all the necessary materials to attend the workshop and will be guided by the artist in the creation of beautiful textile works, which will be subsequently offered for sale during the duration of the exhibition. All funds raised from the inscription fees and sales of the textile works will be donated to the Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund. The participants will be informed if any of their creations have been sold and receive a certificate of participation.

Attendance fee: min. donation CHF 50.- (includes cost of material). Sale price of each individual work produced during the workshop: CHF 150.- for workshops participants and from CHF 300.- to CHF 600.- for the public.

Textilworkshop mit der Künstlerin Alina Kopytsia, um Spenden für die KünstlerInnen in der Ukraine zu sammeln. Die Workshop-TeilnehmerInnen erhalten alle notwendigen Materialien für die Teilnahme am Workshop und werden von der Künstlerin bei der Herstellung schöner Textilarbeiten angeleitet, die anschliessend während der Dauer der Ausstellung zum Verkauf angeboten werden. Alle mit den Einschreibegebühren und dem Verkauf der Textilarbeiten eingenommenen Gelder werden an den Ukrainian Emergency Art Fund gespendet. Die TeilnehmerInnen werden darüber informiert, ob ihre Werke verkauft werden, und erhalten ein Teilnahmezertifikat.

Teilnahmegebühr: Mindestspende CHF 50.- (inkl. Materialkosten). Verkaufspreis jedes einzelnen Werkes, das während des Workshops entsteht: CHF 150.- für die WorkshopteilnehmerInnen; ab CHF 300.- bis CHF 600.- für das weitere Publikum.

SCHLOSS WALDEGG

Waldegg Castle is located on a hill at the foot of the Jura, in the middle of the idyllic recreational area of the Baroque city of Solothurn. Inspired by French and Italian architecture, it was commissioned as a summer residence by the powerful Solothurn patrician Johann Viktor von Besenval, who oversaw its construction between 1682 and 1686. By designing the layout of the castle, the avenues extending far into the landscape and the gardens, Besenval created a Baroque synthesis of the arts.

Waldegg Castle has been open to the public as a museum since 1991. A centre for culture in the canton of Solothurn, it serves as a platform for encounters and exchange between the language and cultural regions of Switzerland as well as between Switzerland and the rest of the world. The rich cultural programme of Waldegg Castle ranges from guided tours to exhibitions, from concerts, opera and theatre performances to scientific lectures.


Auf einer Anhöhe am Fuss des Juras, mitten im idyllischen Naherholungsgebiet der Barockstadt Solothurn, liegt Schloss Waldegg. Inspiriert von französischer und italienischer Architektur liess der mächtige Solothurner Patrizier Johann Viktor von Besenval den Prachtbau zwischen 1682 und 1686 als Sommerresidenz errichten. Mit dem Schloss, den weit in die Landschaft ausgreifenden Alleen und den verschiedenen Gartenanlagen schuf Besenval ein barockes Gesamtkunstwerk.

Seit 1991 ist das Schloss der Öffentlichkeit als Museum zugänglich. Gleichzeitig ist Schloss Waldegg das Zentrum für Kultur und Begegnung des Kantons Solothurn. Es dient als Plattform für Begegnungen und den Austausch zwischen den Sprach- und Kulturregionen der Schweiz und des Auslands. Das reichhaltige kulturelle Angebot reicht von Führungen und Ausstellungen über Konzerte, Opern- und Theateraufführungen bis hin zu wissenschaftlichen Vorträgen.

HOW TO GET THERE / ANFAHRT

Schloss Waldegg is located ca. 10 minutes away by car or by public transport from Solothurn and ​ca. ​one hour from Basel or Bern.

Schloss Waldegg liegt ca. 10 Minuten mit dem Auto oder den öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln von Solothurn und ca. eine Stunde von Basel oder Bern entfernt.

 

BY CAR

Drive to Solothurn, then via St. Niklausstrasse in the direction of Feldbrunnen-St. Niklaus. Schloss Waldegg has a public parking lot. People with disabilities are allowed to park in the courtyard at the entrance to the museum.

BY Public transport

By train to Solothurn, main station, then either:

  • by bus no. 4 direction Rüttenen, get off at the stop St. Niklaus SO, then walk 10 minutes to the castle (via St. Niklaus church).

  • by Solothurn-Niederbippbahn (Bipperlisi) direction Langenthal, get off at the stop Feldbrunnen, then walk 15 minutes to the castle.

  • by bus no. 1219 direction Balm b. Günsberg, get off at the stop Feldbrunnen Bahnhof, then walk 15 minutes to the castle.

Privatverkehr

Mit dem Auto bis Solothurn, danach via St. Niklausstrasse Richtung Feldbrunnen-
St. Niklaus. Schloss Waldegg verfügt über einen öffentlichen Parkplatz. Menschen mit Behinderungen ist es gestattet, im Innenhof beim Eingang zum Museum zu parkieren.

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

Mit der Bahn bis Solothurn, Hauptbahnhof, danach entweder:

  • mit dem Bus Nr. 4 Richtung Rüttenen, Aussteigen: Haltestelle St. Niklaus SO; Fussweg zum Schloss 10 Minuten (via Kirche St. Niklaus)

  • mit der Solothurn-Niederbippbahn (Bipperlisi) Richtung Langenthal, Aussteigen: Haltestelle Feldbrunnen; Fussweg zum Schloss 15 Minuten

  • mit dem Bus Nr. 1219 Richtung Balm b. Günsberg, Aussteigen: Haltestelle Feldbrunnen, Bahnhof; Fussweg zum Schloss 15 Minuten
