For her first exhibition in Switzerland, Mexican artist Vanessa Enríquez has developed a site-specific art installation conceived as a spatial drawing that unfolds in dialog with the Palladian architecture of Villa Morillon. As part of the vernissage and finissage, Enríquez will performatively activate her work together with cellist Hortense Airault and dancer Zoë Serafina Wiedmer. The audience will be involved in a collective, multi-sensory experience of silence. In addition to the installation, other works by the artist can be seen in the exhibition.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Villa Morillon and curated by Dr. Valentina Locatelli.

Für ihre erste Ausstellung in der Schweiz hat die mexikanische Künstlerin Vanessa Enríquez eine ortsspezifische, als räumliche Zeichnung konzipierte Kunstinstallation entwickelt, die sich im Dialog mit der palladianischen Architektur der Villa Morillon entfaltet. Im Rahmen der Vernissage und Finissage wird Enríquez gemeinsam mit der Cellistin Hortense Airault und der Tänzerin Zoë Serafina Wiedmer ihr Werk performativ aktivieren. Das Publikum wird in eine kollektive, multisensorische Erfahrung der Stille eingebunden. Neben der Installation sind in der Ausstellung weitere Arbeiten der Künstlerin zu sehen.

Die Ausstellung ist in Kooperation mit der Villa Morillon organisiert und von Dr. Valentina Locatelli kuratiert.

ARTIST | KÜNSTLERIN

Vanessa Enríquez: geboren 1973 in Mexiko-Stadt. Sie lebt und arbeitet in Berlin.

Vanessa Enríquez ist eine transdisziplinäre Künstlerin, deren Arbeit auf einem erweiterten Ansatz des Zeichnens als kontemplative und forschende Praxis basiert – eine Methode zur Untersuchung von Konzepten und Phänomenen, die von der Physik und nicht-dualen Philosophien vorgeschlagen werden. Mit Werkzeugen, die von Tusche bis zu Magnetband reichen, entfaltet sie Geometrien auf Papier oder im Raum, die auf die multidimensionale Natur der Realität verweisen, das Materielle ebenso wie das Immaterielle anerkennen und die Wahrnehmung der Betrachtenden herausfordern. Enríquez erhielt einen BFA in Grafikdesign in Mexiko-Stadt und einen MFA von der Yale University im Jahr 2000. Sie erhielt Stipendien von der Pollock-Krasner Foundation, der Stiftung Kunstfonds und dem Mexican National Fund for Culture and Arts. Ihre Arbeiten wurden unter anderem im Aomori Center for Contemporary Art, Japan (2022), im Drawing Lab, Paris (2021), im Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Querétaro (MACQ) (2019), im Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Oaxaca (MACO) (2020) und im Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst Juan Soriano in Cuernavaca, Mexiko (2021) ausgestellt.

Born 1973 in Mexico City. She lives and works in Berlin. Vanessa Enríquez is a transdisciplinary artist whose work centers on an expanded approach to drawing as a contemplative and inquisitive practice - a method of investigating concepts and phenomena proposed by physics and non-dual philosophies. With tools ranging from ink to magnetic tape, she unfolds geometries on paper or in space that refer to the multidimensional nature of reality, recognize the material as well as the immaterial and defy the viewer’s perception. Enríquez received a BFA in Graphic Design in Mexico City and an MFA from Yale University in 2000. She has been awarded grants by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the Stiftung Kunstfonds and the Mexican National Fund for Culture and Arts. Her work has been exhibited in institutions such as the Aomori Center for Contemporary Art, Japan (2022); the Drawing Lab, Paris (2021); Querétaro Museum of Contemporary Art (MACQ) (2019); the Museum of Contemporary Art in Oaxaca (MACO, 2020); and the Museum of Contemporary Art Juan Soriano in Cuernavaca, Mexico (2021), among others.

MUSICIAN AND DANCER | MUSIKERIN UND TÄNZERIN

Hortense Airault: Geboren 1999 in Paris. Lebt und studiert in Bern.

Hortense Airault ist eine französische Cellistin, Komponistin und Performerin, deren Arbeit zeitgenössisches Repertoire, Komposition, freie Improvisation und interdisziplinäre Formate verbindet. Geboren in Paris und aufgewachsen in Mayotte (Komoren), studierte sie in Paris und Genf und absolviert derzeit einen Master in Composition Creative Practice an der Hochschule der Künste Bern. Sie trat mit Ensembles wie Contrechamps, dem Ensemble Intercontemporain, ONCEIM und Nomos auf und gründete nach der Begegnung mit Joëlle Léandre das Duo Imminent. Ihre Kompositionen wurden u. a. von Contrechamps und dem Quatuor MOMO in Auftrag gegeben und erscheinen bei 22D Music. Als Preisträgerin des Fritz-Gerber-Preises, des Tremplin Leenaards und des Contrechamps-Preises wird ihre Musik regelmäßig europaweit aufgeführt.

Hortense Airault is a French cellist, composer, and performer whose work blends contemporary repertoire, composition, free improvisation, and interdisciplinary creation. Born in Paris and raised in Mayotte (Comoro Islands), she studied in Paris and Geneva, and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Composition Creative Practice at the Hochschule der Künste Bern. She has performed with ensembles such as Contrechamps, Ensemble Intercontemporain, ONCEIM, and Nomos, and co-founded Duo Imminent after meeting Joëlle Léandre. Her compositions have been commissioned by Contrechamps, Quatuor MOMO, and others, and are published by 22D Music. A laureate of the Fritz Gerber Award, Tremplin Leenaards, and the Contrechamps Prize, her work is regularly performed across Europe.

Zoë Serafina Wiedmer: Geboren 2002 in Bern. Lebt und tanzt in und zwischen Bern und München.

Zoë Serafina Wiedmer ist eine Schweizer Tänzerin mit Schwerpunkt auf Zeitgenössischen Tanz, Jazz und Improvisation. Geboren in Bern, begann sie bereits im Alter von drei Jahren mit dem Tanztraining. Nach der Maturität im Talentförderungsprogramm des Gymnasiums Neufeld in Bern absolvierte sie ihren Bachelor in Zeitgenössischem Tanz an der Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in München. Ihre künstlerische Arbeit bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von verschiedenen zeitgenössischen Techniken und Improvisation. In der Spielzeit 2021/22 tanzte sie in Richard Wagners Oper „Das Rheingold“ bei Bühnen Bern. Seit 2023 ist sie Mitglied bei der interdisziplinären Compagnie „EllementArts“, mit welcher sie bei verschiedenen Festivals im in und Ausland aufgetreten ist. Zoë ist mehrfache Schweizermeisterin im Jazz und Showdance und unterrichtet seit 2022 Tanz in Bern und München. Ebenfalls war sie 2025 im Finale der Show „Das Supertalent“ als Tänzerin an der Seite der Artistin Anja Luna zu sehen.

Born in 2002 in Bern. Lives and dances in and between Bern and Munich. Zoë Serafina Wiedmer is a Swiss dancer with a focus on contemporary dance, jazz and improvisation. Born in Bern, she began dance training at the age of three. After graduating from the talent development program at the Neufeld Gymnasium in Bern, she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance at the Iwanson International School of Contemporary Dance in Munich. Her artistic work explores the intersection of various contemporary techniques and improvisation. During the 2021/22 season, she danced in Richard Wagner’s opera ‘Das Rheingold’ at Bühnen Bern. Since 2023, she has been a member of the interdisciplinary company ‘EllementArts,’ with which she has performed at various festivals both in Switzerland and abroad. Zoë is a multiple Swiss champion in jazz and show dance and has been teaching dance in Bern and Munich since 2022. In 2025, she also appeared in the finals of the TV show ‘Das Supertalent’ as a dancer alongside aerial artist Anja Luna.
